Emily of the State - Internet Spying Short

29/03/2007

A parody of government internet spying. Synopsis: Bell Sympatico is monitoring on your internet use and could be willing to give it over to the Federal Government. Find out how, in this Cynically Tested short. Side Note: Please Don't Sue Us Bell. Update: The Canadian Liberal Party has announced introduced the Modernization of Investigative Techniques Act (MITA) as Bill C-416, a private members bill. What does that mean? Well let's ask the inspiration for the video Michael Geist. "Last introduced by the Liberals in the fall of 2005, MITA mandates the installation of new surveillance technologies within Canadian networks along with additional legal powers to access surveillance and subscriber information. Often referred to as the "lawful access" initiative, the legislation would compel Internet service providers to install new interception capabilities as they upgrade their networks. The country's major ISPs, who provide service to the majority of Canadians, would eventually be capable of intercepting data and isolating specific subscribers. Among the most troubling aspects of Bill C-416 is a series of new powers that are not accompanied by any judicial oversight. Law enforcement authorities, including the police, CSIS agents, and even Competition Bureau authorities, will have the right to obtain ISP subscriber information simply upon request without a warrant. " For more check out Michael Geist's Article -" Liberals try to Resuscitate Big Brother plan for the Internet " From the Ottawa Citizen March 27 2007. http://www.michaelgeist.ca/content/view/1828/159/

The iPhone has nothing on this Phone!

12/01/2007

Remember the days when phone's were used for talking? Neither do we! We here at Cynically Tested won't even borrow someone's phone if it doesn't at least have a video game from the 80's and a camera we can use to prove we have friends and they're willing to be stupid on camera. That's why when asked by Wonyub to make our commercial directorial debut we sold out and made this new commercial for the greatest phone you'll ever see! Steve Jobs should watch out, because the iphone has nothing on the DS331 from Wonyub! With Love, Dan and Wes

Just for Hacks Gags

07/01/2007

Happy 2007 Kids! Canadians will recognize this - you might even recognize this if you've been in airplane in the last 5 years it's a show called Just for Laughs Gags. (resist inserting your own pun of gags). Anyways for those of you who don't know, it is a god awful Candid Camera style show produced in our home country of Canada (we're sorry). There is no dialogue just awful carnie music put to some sort of unfunny prank. Because this show has the total budget of a mcdeal, they air it every chance they get on three different networks here. So enough was enough!- This is for everyone who has ever had to sit through an episode of this garbage with their family or culture challenged friends - Cynically Tested proudly presents Just for Hacks Gags! Notes from the Guys, - This was one of our first shorts we ever did about two years ago. (That's why it looks so awful... no really that's why.. sighs..). - Canadian Paparazzi: The Directors Cut was our first short film - it won the 2005 Canadian National Youth Film Fest Standing Ovation award (begins to pat self on back while other hand blows horn) - The N was the original title of the Only Channel we changed it shortly after this short. - And yes we really do hate TBS With Apathy, Dan and Wes
